Gymnocladus dioica / Geweihbaum : Gebrauchsanweisung für Keimung
The germination of Gymnocladus dioica / Geweihbaum / Kentucky Coffee Tree can be problematic if the seeds are just sown. In the pictures below you can see what I do to get the seeds germinated.

- Put the seeds in a zip lock bag with slightly moist sowing compost. (Add enough sharp sand so the seeds will not rot). Place somewhere warm (20 degr. C.)

- After 3 days the seeds are entirely free of their coats.

- CAREFULLY remove the parts of the seed coat that are soft with a Stanley knife taking care not to harm the actual seed

- If all goes well this is the result: a one year old seedling of Gymnocladus dioica

- After a couple of days the tap root starts to emerge. At this point you can sow the seed in a deep pot at warmth. Take care that the sowing compost is not too wet otherwise the seed will rot
