I received a request from the School of Arts.
About the tree in the middle on this old image.
Agree with Sequoiadendron giganteum?

This modern photo looks a bit similar:
http://tinyurl.com/q6g5u5c
So it might in fact be S. giganteum...
They do not know where the photo was taken?

Indeed your image is quite similar.
The photo is taken (+/-1900) 'Couthof' or the 'Lovie' estate in the Westhoek (B)
and I think the tree not longer exists.
I prefer to show it here, as Sequoiadendron has so many forms/shapes especially when (relatively) young.
And like you know me: I prefer good images...
The author would like to use the picture in a book.

I also received confirmation from Tim Bekaert about the identity (indeed Sequoiadendron) as this is his field, he is also
the author of http://www.monumentaltrees.com/
further he commented that trees in such shape usually die soon

Jan and thanks!
