Hallo zusammen,

If you ask me ;- ))
and if I can take the liberty to answer free
Die Kosmos Enzyklopädie der Bäume
Is the best book on trees there is on this moment
It is indeed 100 Euro
but...
B/R and F. including ALL the works together mentioned on http://www.baumkunde.de/baumbestimmung-literatur.php
are more than 100 Euro valued, and stay again, together, in the shade of it.
Of course there are better works, but these are costly (Krüssmann, Bean, New Trees, all kind of monographs).
But these are, expensive, or for advanced users, or out of print.
So I should recommend it before it gets out of print, like the English edition already is!!!

Thank you
Dear Jan,
thanks a lot for your recommandation.
If you recommand this book, it is reason enough for me to buy it.
Unfortunally I am not shure to understand precisely what you said:

Did I get you right, that the the books mentioned on the site costs much more than 100 €, but Kosmos Enzyklopädie includes all or most of the knowledge of the books mentioned on the site and is even better?
Best regards
Harry

Yes, Harry.
I would like to say that before you find the quality this book offers, you have to buy much more books at a much higher collective price.
More precisely:
advantages:
- fully illustrated, with accurate colour figures
I do not know of an other mono-volume work with so much illustrations in colour (the others on the link together have not as much or only really poor images not true to nature)
- a good selection of a large number of taxa (some of the other works describe probably more taxa but then also shrubs are included)
disadvantages:
- costly
- heavy (you can not take it with you outside, I tried this once, but it is easily damaged and this is a shame)
- no shrubs
- somewhat older nomenclature here and there
conclusion (my personal view):
if you need a book on trees, consider to buy this book especially if you already have one similar to Roloff and Bärtels.
When I bought it, the reason was: I could not resist the good, beautiful and comprehensive illustrations (believe me, I have hundreds of books).
Now it is almost used every day, and is situated next to my sofa...
