This conifer is distinguishable from all others by combination of following characters:
-Wintergreen
-Leaf covering shoot at base
-Visible stomata (x 10) limited to shoot abaxially
-Lateral scales distant from base on
-< 100 cm high, prostrate (to distinguish from Xanthocyparis that also has previous characters and a pungent smell in comon)

Hi Jan,
very good images.
But I think, the better help is a Habitus-Foto. Most know the plant from the Bot.Gardens or Nurseries and will remember, when they see a foto from the whole plant in summer and winter. The needle-details are too similar to others from other families.
All the best
Wolfgang

Stimmt. Trotzdem sind diese Detailfotos hervorragend, so sieht man es ja sonst nie.Cryptomeria hat geschrieben:But I think, the better help is a Habitus-Foto. Tormi hatte ja schon geschrieben:
niederliegendes Gehölz, kaum über einen halben Meter hoch werdend
da haben wir den Habitus.
