There are about 10 Ehretia dicksonii's that I know in collections in Belgium
and about 6 Ehretia acuminata (mostly under the name Ehretia thyrsiflora here.

So for sure there are examples in most gardens.
But the tree is not very conspicuous and I saw it labelled under various names as Franklinia alatamaha in the walled part of the collection at Hemelrijk (Jelena could not believe this at once), and indeed quite often it is NOT labelled, to give some ideas...
The rough leaves are a real feature.

notice the very rough surface of the lamina for this taxon

and an other Ehretia acuminata (but from same collection at Gent)

So the question is:
what is the degree of roughness adaxially?

as the leaves are variable as you can see
but more bullate between veins in Ehretia dicksonii
and more +/- flat between veins in Ehretia acuminata

Ich haette ja nicht gedacht , das es sich um ein so unbekanntes Gehoelz handelt , zumindest in deutschen Breiten . Ein wesentlicher Punkt ist wahrscheinlich die mangelnden Frosthaerte . Ich habe leider nur noch ein zusaetzliches Bild von der Unterseite . Kann leider nichts zur Beharrung am Staengelansatz sagen . Aber ich denke es spricht alles fuer Ehretia accuminata. Vor allem die Blattform .
