Scharlach-Eiche ---> Quercus rubra
Hallo,
Baum "Scharlach-Eiche" erwartet.

Hallo!

This is the same tree, some days before. The same like number two.

Quercus coccinea
is quite often wrong in collections
there are a lot of hybrids
this one is in part resembling that taxon but the leaves are not typical but in between it and Quercus rubra probably
Generally spoken 50-60 % of the names on the labels in Botanic gardens and collections are right.
the rest are 'errors':
- hybrids
- spelling mistakes
- other infraspecific taxa (not the subsp. var. form or cultivar)
- wrong author names
- other taxa
some gardens are extremely right labelled
like Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
a lot is depending of
- if there is staff to verify the plants
- if there is staff to change labels etc
- if there is time and money...
This is the right attitude.
Because I am sure there is a lot of work, in every collection.
And people can express their appreciation by regularly visits, in a way the responsible persons can 'feel' the interest, in the hope this opens perspectives!
Re: derselbe
Also 50-60% falsch! Das hätte ich echt nicht erwartet, gerade bei botanischen Gärten die professionell geführt werden.JDL hat geschrieben: Generally spoken 50-60 % of the names on the labels in Botanic gardens and collections are right.

my 'numbers' are in a way of speaking "generally"
also based on my work I did for 10 gardens 4 years long
so it means WORLD wide and is maybe not "the" "truth"
but to give an idea how difficult it is see:
here
And this is for Berlin botanic Garden
After Kew, Edinburgh and Missouri, one of the most important ones!!!
But not every collection does have such a large staff like these above!!!
Where, I see for Berlin, 5 scientists are occupied with identification, doing up to 1000 a year and now they are about half way...
