Zypresse im BoGa Puerto Cruze
Hallo,

To identify a Cupressus benthamii (the species name corresponds to the first description and it is better to treat it at the species rank) it is necessary to have a close up of the foliage. Cones would help too. Most Cupressus benthamii are wrongly labelled.
The trees labelled Cupressus cashmeriana in Italy are all Cupressus tortulosa (Bhutan) and NOT Cupressus torulosa (West Nepal and NW India).
Cf. one of the Bulletin of the Cupressus Conservation Project.

This is true for Cupressus lusitanica, not for Cupressus benthamii only described in the 19th century (1847 by Endlicher). Imho it is a mistake to make of bentahmii a variety of lusitanica. They do not grow in the same region and they are very easily distinguishable. As Cupressus lusitanica was described from a cultivated tree in Portugal, its exact origin in Mexico is still unknown, but it is sure that it came from outside the benthamii range.
